User Guide: CI Data and Import
Release: 1.4.0
Overview
The CI Data and Import Improvement enhancement significantly expands Configuration Item (CI) data management in the Bearing platform. This release introduces new fields for tracking asset lifecycle information, a CI classification system, and improved bulk import capabilities through the Import Manager.
What's new:
- 6 new CI fields: Firmware, Integrator, Integrator SKU, Depreciation Schedule, Warranty Status, and Service Plan Status
- CI Classification: Categorize devices by type (Hardware, IoT Device, Software, Equipment)
- Protected Asset Linking during import: Link CIs to Protected Assets directly in the import file
- Updated Import Manager integration: All CI templates updated and compatible with the Import Manager

Updating CI Records with New Fields
Updating an Individual CI Record
- Navigate to the CI record (via Configuration Items in the Bearing Workspace)
- Open the record you want to update
- Fill in any of the new fields as applicable:
- Firmware: Enter the current firmware version (e.g., "v2.5.1")
- Integrator: Enter the name of the vendor who installed the device
- Integrator SKU: Enter the vendor's exact product SKU
- Depreciation Schedule: Enter the depreciation period (e.g., "7 years")
- Warranty Status: Select the current warranty status from the dropdown
- Service Plan Status: Select the current service plan status from the dropdown
- CI Class: Select the device classification from the dropdown
- Click Update to save
Importing CIs with the Import Manager
Step 1: Navigate to Import Manager
Open the Bearing Workspace and navigate to Import Manager.
Step 2: Select Import Type
Select Security Hardware as the import type (covers all device types).
Step 3: Download the Template
Download the pre-defined import template for the device type you are importing (e.g., Cameras, Card Readers, Sensors). Templates are available for:
- Access Cards
- Cameras (CCTV, IP, PTZ)
- Card Readers
- HVAC Systems
- NVR/DVR Systems
- Sensors
- Access Control Panels
- Biometric Devices
- And all other security equipment
Step 4: Fill In Your Data
Complete the template with your CI data. The template now includes columns for all new fields:
- Firmware - Current firmware version
- Integrator - Installation vendor name
- Integrator SKU - Vendor product code
- Depreciation Schedule - Depreciation period
- Warranty Status - Active / Expired / Extended / N/A
- Service Plan Status - Active / Expired / Pending / None
- CI Class - Hardware / IoT Device / Software / Equipment
Linking to Protected Assets during import:
To automatically link CIs to a Protected Asset during import, add the Protected Asset ID (e.g., PA0001234) to the Protected Asset column in your import file. The system will create the link automatically - no manual linking required after import.
Step 5: Upload and Complete the Import
- Upload your completed file through the Import Manager wizard
- Review any errors reported and correct as needed
- Confirm the import and track progress
- Verify records were created and linked correctly
